08/31/2001 Entry: "Binge, Purge, Rinse, Repeat." I was never good at treating mysef a little. If I don't set a dollar value that I can spend ahead of time, I will shop until I'm too shaky to stand. But after the insanity that has been the past several days or work, I wanted something. I really had to get Vespertine, and Laurie Anderson's newest "Life on a String" and the old "Strange Angels" (which are a pretty good pair, in a lot of ways.) And then they had two more rereleases from Wendy Carlos, because I'm a synthesizer geek from way back. Throw in some Orbital, the best of X, Mark Almond, some old Joe Jackson, and you've got quite a handful. I'd be less embarrassed at my indulgence if I hadn't bought the Hedwig Soundtrack, Basement Jaxx "Remedy", Autechre "Canfield" and, um, some more Mark Almond a week or two ago. I think this qualifies as a binge. Possible layoffs? What possible layoffs? Of course, now that I have all this new music to listen to while I sit here, my computer's CD drive has started to act funny. Because that's just the way life is.
