Exercise 6a: Dialogue Analysis.

Art Director: "...So what I hear you asking for now at...[checking watch]...6:30pm, is a completely different and remarkably more complicated project—a 180 degree change in direction from what you pitched to us at four. But we agreed to it then, so we're committed to doing this and still meeting the Monday deadline. Is that right?"
Marketing Manager: "Well...basically, yes."
AD: "So we're probably going to have to work all day Friday and Monday on it, potentially over the weekend, pushing all our other projects off to next week."
MM: "[Embarrassed] Yes, I guess so. Well....I'll get you guys lunch! We can bring lunch in."
AD: "..."
MM: "What do you want for lunch?"
AD: "...How about an hour off?"

Questions for discussion:
1. Was the Art Director being an asshole? Why or why not?
2. Would it make a difference if the pizza was really tasty?
3. Are they going to make their deadline? Will the world actually end if they don't?

How About Just 'Pretty Good?'

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my niece's twins were born earlier this week. I'm now a Great Uncle. I don't know what's so great about it, for me or, more importantly, for them. Since I'm gay, could I be their Fa-a-abulous Uncle instead?

The twins, it should be noted, are named Anna and Ella, and it pleased my geeky little heart to no end that They named their twin children palindromic names in our palindromic year. Yes, yes, I know; hands down in the back. All week I've thought this. It wasn't until I started writing this post that I realized "Ella" isn't a palindrome and my point is essentially moot...Oh, isn't that just great?

I'll have to check with my mother...maybe it was actually "Elle." I'd rather be a geek instead of an idiot, but I may not have a choice in the matter here.

Oh, and not that I care if you read it, but I've written a new diary entry.

Taking Off for the Day Decade.

Okay, one more day down, 34 years left to go. This work thing is really starting to cramp my style. Maybe I should knock off a little early. Maybe a lot early. I think I'm the type of person who could handle it. At least I know that when I get to that point, there's help. (Yeah, so maybe I can only afford it if I die in two or three years. What's your point?)

Blue Monday 88.

Oh, what wonderful stuff in my mailbox! PJ not only sent a copy of the Eurythmics B-sides I'd begged him for, but also his Summer CD compilation! Yay for new music. Thanks, PJ!

It's clear that I'm long overdue for a CD shopping trip. I still need Marc Almond's last release, and should get the latest Imperial Teen so I don't wear out my housemate's copy. I've meant to pick up Gary Numan's "Exile" for a couple years now and never have, and now I find out he's released another album "Pure" in the meantime. Maybe I'll also pick up "Disconnect" by Iris or something by the Cruxshadows. You know, maybe some goth music from this decade? (Have any other suggestions?)

I spent my evening listening to the Perkigoth radio stream, if you couldn't tell. When I realized that the only songs I recognized are from 1991 or before, I started to think that maybe I needed to do something about that. Jeez, when did I turn into such an old bat?

And maybe I should have gone to Death Rock Booty Call last night.
