Friday, July 5, 2002 Bullfrogs. I should also mention that I don't look so great in all-over red either—that is, sunburned to a crisp. My mother sent some really good Bullfrog sunblock which works, isn't slimy and doesn't smell. I might be able to do outside activities more regularly now. (Stop laughing...I know, I'm still more likely to use a different kind of Bullfrog.)
11:04 AM PST (link) Thursday, July 4, 2002 Red, White and Yellow Terror Alert. I thought about dressing in yellow today, since we're told, like the Great Oz in the movie The Wiz, that this is the terrorist threat color of our weekend. Pity, I never looked very good in yellow. I loved listening to a story on NPR (no link; no time to apply for one) yesterday about how any congregation of three or more persons was a potential target of terrorism, and would have additional security there. Jeebus knows we have a National Guardsman protecting the backyard for a little barbeque going on back there. Y'know, just in case. Odd Bless America. No, I got up too late, so it was the usual black outfit for the Opening Day performance of the San Francisco Mime Troupe's newest show, "Mr. Smith Goes to Obscuristan." Very cool; As always, their highly political show has a lot of great music. And it's free in venues across Northern California. Fireworks later, which will hopefully be a little more exciting than last year. Doesn't really matter, though, since I have tomorrow off from work. Now there's a liberty anyone could stand behind. Happy 4th, America.
06:08 PM PST (link) Tuesday, July 2, 2002 The Latest In (Useless) Code Technology! Oh, I'm all over David Gwynn's Otherstream Code: M31 Ed2 Oc3 Soc- Ind FV Lit1267 7 PolLb+L+ Rl-- Mus123457 Crn- I'm a sucker for codes and quizzes, as you may have noticed. I had a feature for a while compiling those online tests and crap, but the page disappeared from the server. Dunno why, either. Shrug. Maybe I can find an old version and post it when I get to that point. (Yes, I'm slowly redesigning the site. So far I've made literally one change to the page template in preparation for this, but hey, it's a start.)
10:06 PM PST (link) With Apologies to Paul and Art. Hello, BBEdit, my old friend OK, maybe I'm a little more irritable than usual because of this headache. It came on at the same time today as it did yesterday, so I'm wondering what's triggering it here at work. I'm about to send another ibuprofen down to investigate what happened to the previous two. Of course, there's also a little tension in the air here, as we're still unsure who will be affected when the proverbial axe falls next week. That's never good for keeping stress levels down. I asked a coworker for an opinion on something, and their response was, "Well, after next week it won't matter." Hey, way to get this party started! OK, once again, into the code.
04:46 PM PST (link) Monday, July 1, 2002 You Look...Different, Somehow. At lunch, a co-worker said something looked different about me today. He asked if I had lost weight. I could have kissed him right then. Later, a woman I work with in another department came by to talk about a project we're working on. She stopped and asked, "Did you color your hair?" No, I sure didn't. Why? "I don't know. You look different. Haircut?" Nope, I'm in desperate need of one, in fact. I offered that maybe my hair had lightened in the sun this weekend, when it struck me why no one could understand why I looked so much different than usual: Maybe there's color in my face from being in the sun.
