Did I find my spot or not?

My mother will appreciate this one. It's not clear to me if the survey at Find My Spot is ranked or not. But if it is, my top five places to live are:

• Washington, District of Columbia (The World's Greatest Capital)
• Little Rock, Arkansas (Where America Comes Together. Bring me a towel!)
• Portland, Oregon (City of Roses)
• Baltimore, Maryland (The Sparkling Harbor City)
San Jose, California (The Silicon Capital, and my hometown.)

Maybe mom would let me move back in if I asked nicely. (San Francisco actually ended up lucky number 13 on my list, behind Oakland, New Orleans and Boston. So maybe I'm not too far off.)

Pulled over for a B.U.I.

The Internet was broken last night when I got home (well, our DSL was out, anyway, and may still be) which I took as a sign that I shouldn't blog while under the influence. In this case the influence was a pair of large Gin & Tonics and the very pleasant company of the slightly enigmatic Mark from Stumble.com. If I sounded like a cretin as we talked about life and advertising, he didn't let on, even through my stuttering, shy pauses and pointless rambles.

And I managed to escape the digital camera this time. Next time I have a feeling I won't be so lucky. So much for being enigmatic.

Back to Nature Computing.

OK, we're changing DSL providers, and the Roommate is convinced they all suck eggs. That's it, I give up. I'm becoming a luddite. In fact, maybe I'll take up Druidic Technology. We have space behind the apartment for the memory upgrade, right?

Welcome to Eternity!

Well, if Helms decides not to seek re-election, he'll have a lot more time to catch up on his movies. "Honey, I hate to tell you; but your Disco Days are OVER!"

Hold music: Fuming in G Minor.

"Thank you for holding...the next available customer service representative will assist as soon as possible. We apologize for the delay and look forward to assisting you."

No you don't. We spent four hours yesterday looking at and deciding on a hotel that you said was available. Grrrr. Maybe I should just go ahead and book the expensive option instead of trying to find a cheaper hotel. Any recommendations on a better site to use in my search for hotels?

Oh, wait, was I supposed to be working here at work today? I was already late this morning (hopefully) taking care of my passport application. Whoops! Time for lunch.

Addendum: In fact we've made a decision, but between the interesting-but-painful-to-use website navigation and the fact that they only have a brochure en Castellano I hope I made reservations at the right place.

Not to brag, but...

I'd like to point out that today is officially my two year anniversary of quitting smoking. Many thanks to Quitnet for their help in getting through the first two months of cravings, lightheadedness and bitchiness. Congratulations also to the Roommate, whose anniversary is tomorrow. His quitting was more help than I can express.

It's a big deal and not a big deal at the same time. I'm pleased that I've been able to actually do it—through determination and some white knuckles—but after a couple of years it's become so ingrained, it's hard to believe I ever smoked (pop-up window) in the first place.

But I'm glad I quit.
